Catching Up (again!)

35{365} Beat

I had a little trouble finding some inspiration for this prompt, which is crazy, because Liam is a little dancer, moving to any beat he hears. This little roller plays music as it rolls and I took a photo of him dancing to the 'beat'. He gets excited when the music plays and he starts dancing and puts his arms up, but forgets that the roller is in his hand and the music stops when he puts his arms up. (Also, I took it two days late, for anyone who notices that Liam is wearing the same clothes in two of the photos in this post. Oops.)

36{365} Nap

Naptime for Liam was over before I realized that I needed to get a picture of 'nap', so, I just snapped one of Zoey taking a nap. (With my phone...I wasn't feeling so movivated this day. Eh, oh well.)

37{365} Backlit

Liam and Roxy, softly lit from behind. The afternoon light that comes through our patio doors into the kitchen is soft and perfect for taking photos, which is why I take a lot of close-up photos on my table.

38{365} Use Your Senses

I could not figure which of the five senses I was going to highlight today. But, Liam came through for me. He found a baby gift I am sending to a friend and got this out of the bag. We love Sophie Giraffe in our house (Thanks, Jenny!); she was one of Liam's first favorites and has become one of my go-to gifts for a new mom.  I think one of the reasons she is such a well-loved toy is because she appeals to all five senses. Thanks for pulling through for Mommy, Liam!

39{365} More Than One

When we went to the Ostrich Farm last weekend, we went into the Lorikeet Forest where the Rainbow Lorikeets fly freely and land on you (!!!) to eat nectar from a cup you hold. This was one of my worst nightmares come true: I do not like birds. But, after I conquered my fear, it was actually a very neat experience. I took this photo of the birds lined up on the fence with this exact prompt in mind. How's that for planning ahead.

Hello February!

32{365} Heartfelt Sentiments

One of my favorite mementos is a small photo album that holds several index cards. At all of my bridal showers, everyone who attended filled out a card with either words of wisdom for the bride or a letter to the bride; one shower was even words to describe the bride. This album will forever be special to me because the women who filled out the index cards each hold a place in my heart.

33{365} Shadows

Of course the prompt on Groundhog Day would be 'shadow'. Good thing we have a lot of sun here! This picture was on a trip to Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch. I love that it contains both Liam and Daddy's shadows. (And Liam's little arms and legs in this picture make me grin! He was on a mission!)

34{365} A Pop of Red

I have heard that when you see red, you should take a picture of it. This isn't anything too spectacular,  but it's a sight I see every day. And I love the pops of red against an otherwise boring background.

Today is my brother's 21st birthday and I am wishing we could be home to celebrate with him. This is the time when I am more homesick than anything, when we miss out on family togetherness. I'm just thankful to be part of such a loving family. Happy birthday, bud. We love you!

On the Thirds

31{365} On the Thirds

On the Thirds was our technical prompt for the month and I was not aware of what it meant, but after I researched it, it makes a lot of sense. I snapped this photo while the guys were walking to get a cart at Target, and while it might be a bit of a stretch to fit this rule, I'm using it. Plus, it's a picture of my favorite people in the world. In my eyes, it's perfection.

30{365} A Faceless Portrait

Liam, doing one of the things he loves most...reading. Mama couldn't be more proud!

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Brownies

Just the title sounds decadent. Mmmm. I saw these brownies on the Today show and had a hard time finding the recipe. (Even now I don't have a website to link, but I did not come up with this recipe on my own. I am just sharing the deliciousness.) They are best enjoyed as soon as the peanut butter topping is spread on, still a little warm from the oven.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Brownies

One brownie mix, prepared according to box directions and then cooled
1 cup peanut butter
3/4 cup powdered sugar
4 Tbsp butter, melted
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup chocolate chips (I like the mini chips)

Combine peanut butter, powdered sugar, butter, and salt. Spread on brownies. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Enjoy!

A Circle

29{365} A Circle

This particular circle, my Nana's sugar bowl, holds a special place in my heart. I have many memories of having a 'tea party' at her house after school and this sugar bowl was always in attendance. It is a sweet reminder of our after school tea parties and time spent together.

Passion

26{365} Passion

I have always had a passion for reading, though I haven't had much time to indulge in it lately. This particular set of books, the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder, holds a special place in my heart. These are the first books that I remember loving; I was totally and completely engaged in the story. (My secret dream is to live during that time. However, I am quickly reminded of how much I like electricity and running water.) My incredible parents even took me to some of Laura Ingalls Wilder's homes while we were on our family vacations, which made the story come to life for me. I am getting ready to re-read these books as an adult. I can't wait to relive this story and get lost in another time.

27{365} Dislike

Folding laundry...ugh. Truthfully, I enjoy almost everything about 'keeping house', but folding laundry is the one thing that I dread.

So, when that thought crosses my mind, I am quick to remind myself how thankful I am that we have clothes to wash, fold, and put away.

28{365} Sunset

Living in the Southwest, we are usually privy to some phenomenal sunsets. Today, however, was not one of those days. After a few rainy, cloudy days, we didn't have much of a true sunset, but it is hard to not see the beauty in God's creation when you see the mountains. I went to one of the few places on base where there are no buildings or trees blocking the view of the mountains and took these photos.

The Tucson mountain range to the West.

The Santa Catalina mountain range to the North. The haze was so thick, you could not see the tops of the range.

*Fun fact: You can use the first letters of the mountain ranges surrounding Tucson to spell the word CHRIST.
